Our Finals will be a Presentation

Today is Wednesday May 21, 2014 and we are only six days away from the end of school, Thursday May 29, 2014.

Our finals will be sharing our research about careers.

Reply to this blog post  to schedule when you will present to the class.  Do include what class you are in:  1p,  2p  or  5p.

Each student will share one written encouragement (Congratulations you did it!), something learned from the presentation( I did not know ...), and or constructive feedback (Slow down and take your time talking, remember to use your resources.)

A good oral presentation with digital media should include:

Blog presentation on screen.  Access to research material.

In a Clear Voice share:

1. Name
2. Research Paper Title
3. Job Description
4. Most interesting thing learned in research ( Task 2 Career Aptitude test or about the work)
5. Why you want to pursue this career.

A presenter may have up to 5 minutes.  Minimum is one minute.

1.  Find video with music good for your project created in Power Point or other media editing application.
2.  Copy the .url
3.  Create tab or window for www.youtube-mp3.org
4.  Paste the .url in the window for Covert Video
5.  Convert and download the resulting work.

Once you have finished Slideshow>Practice Timings.
Save>Save and Send>Create a Video>CHANGE Computer & HD Displays to Internet and DVD.

Good morning everyone!

As we head into the end of the year, we want to wrap up this research paper!

I expect everyone to have completed by Tuesday and write out THREE pages on a career you are interested in pursuing.  Discuss how your college choices (school, major) will help you achieve a career with the various demands and particularities of your interest.

I would like to see the last of the three pages of typewritten work to contain why you are interested in that particular career: what life events and experiences have shaped your interests.

For example:   I began my pursuit of photography when, during a photography class at Sam Rayburn High School, I saw my photograph develop in a tray of Dektol developer. Poof, under the red safelight, I witnessed "scientific magic" the chemical interactions causing an image to materialize on an otherwise black sheet of paper.

No cover page wanted.  Page 4 should list your sources of your paper research.

 A few updates:
Once you get to task 4 and complete the Q and As, start on your research paper.
Not asking for topics of interest number 2 or 3.  I expect two pages from everyone
by the end of the week.  If class as A WHOLE makes progress, we will have a photography day.
Prepare to work on your HOW TO on Thursday.

Today we used Google to enlarge our search for information about careers for
our research paper.  Using simple search terms such as "careers" in our subject of interest
resulted in LOTS of websites. 


A basic skill is to identify the source of the website to insure good information.
So avoid the for profit schools.  Do work with sites associated with professional organizations;
member organizations; government institutions; professions with an education component to their website; and personal "testimonials" about their experience in finding work in a certain field or
work that is best suited to their talents, personal interests or moral convictions.

Students are required to search three online reports about the photograph and video of the Palestinian refugees living in Yarmouk neighborhood in Damascus Syria.

Students need to create a blog post with the online reports, photograph and video, and

3.  the students reaction to viewing the reports, photograph, and video.

How to Convert Power Point slideshow into a Video

 Good morning everyone!

We are working away completing our projects.

These are the steps to convert your Power Point project into video.

1.  When you have your text, photos, video and any animations in order:       Slideshow>Rehearse timings>Save
        Length from one minute to three minutes long.

 

2. To make video output

File>Save and Send>Create Video>change from Computer and HD Displays to Internet and DVD setting

At bottom right is button CREATE VIDEO

 

3.  Name video and save on your computer. 

4.  Post this video file to a new blog  post.  make sure all members of working group are named.

5.  Share this blog post url as a comment to my blog "How To" assignment.

6.  All group members must create a post on their blog with the url to the finished piece on members blog with video.

“How To” multimedia project.

The goal of this assignment is to animate your “How To” written assignment.

The expectation is the use of Venn diagrams and the blank storyboard form and handwriting the first draft or “brainstorming” session to develop the Big Goal, sequence steps and  conclusion.

The written work should be typed and already posted to a group members blog.

1. You can build your digital media project in Power Point, Movie Maker or Animoto.  Other construction platforms will be considered on a case by case basis.
   
2. Three title cards: project name, project members and music and other credits or thank yous.
   
3. Length: between one minute to three minutes.
   
4. Post as a reply to this post the url to your work as posted to your blog.

Written material Due:  Wednesday March 5, 2014 (Turn in handwritten drafts and post to blog.)

Project material Due: Wednesday March 12, 2014 (Turn in completed work via blog.) 
A separate grade will be given for classroom presentations that will start Wednesday, March 12, 2014.

Quick write a “How to” process.  Describe and illustrate the Big Goals and the little goals to meet the Big Goal. (Demonstrate and document with words, and photographs/video).  Groups may use clip art from the Internet if appropriate.

Written material:  Use storyboard or Venn diagrams to describe the process. Identify Start.  Identify End.
                                     List components needed to start and finish process.  List between 8 and 12 steps.
                                    The final step can be the description of the finished product or comment of final
                                    actions/reactions.  Example:  “Add frosting and the cake is done” or
                                    “We sat down and ate the cake”.

Examples:  How to bake a cake; how to write a research paper; how to check out a college or university; how to make a date; etc.

TIPS:  Better to have too many photos than not enough.  Build this project in Power Point; Movie Maker on laptops; or Animoto.com ( 30-second chapters, up to six.) Make sure you have names of all project participants on work.
